Classroom Considerations

Most of the tools I recommend in this book are entirely web based because I know just how difficult it can be to get software installed on a lab of computers in a public school. Sonic Pi is one of the rare cases where I think the value of an installed program outweighs the challenges—in part because the tight control over timing needed for music performance is tough to find in a browser-based program. As I mentioned earlier Sonic Pi was originally designed for the Raspberry Pi, and it comes installed by default in the Raspberry Pi OS Raspbian, but installers are also available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. As a desktop application there are no student accounts necessary, nor are there any built-in mechanisms for students to submit work.
